The Gypsy Song will begin with a gathering by the bridge over the river Gwydol - river crossings mark an important and essential stopping point for any traveller. A place to refresh the horses and to dream of the journey to come. We will create a "kumpania" a procession of the four and two footed which will then wend its way down a tree lined stony track.
Then let the feasting and the fair begin, central to everything - The Horse -always at the heart of gypsy life.
We invite you to join us in paying respect to gypsy tales and customs, to learn of their journeying and attention to the landscape as the night settles around us, the swallows swoop over head and the otters listen from their lairs.
" Nostalgia is the essence of the Gypsy song, and seems always to have been. But nostalgia for what? Nostos is the greek for " a return home": the gypsys have no home, and perhaps uniquely amongst peoples, they have no dream of a homeland. Utopia - au topos- means "no place". Nostalgia for utopia: a return home to no place.
O lungo drom. The long road. " From Bury Me Standing by Isabel Fonseca
It is believed that the Gypsy's originated in India, they travelled and moved through Eastern Europe to the Southern tips of Spain where even today El Rosio the celebration of the Black Virgin still takes place. So there are many inspirations to dress for the occasion, please feel free to be eclectic and colourful as you please - to entertain and to enjoy - and become part of the eccentricity which shapes Equilibre.
"The progressive secularization of modern man has altered the content of his spiritual life, but not broken the mould of his imagination;a huge residency of mythology lingers in the zones that have escaped regimentation" Mircea Eliade
